The Iron Carbide and its important concepts

1

The Iron Carbide and its important concepts, Alloy Steel, Transformation in Iron-Iron Carbide Diagram, Austempering, Martempering.

Course Description

Engineering Metallurgy is a domain of materials science and Engineering that studies the physical and chemical behavior of metallic elements and their mixtures, which are called as alloys. An alloy is an mixture of metals, or a metal combined with one or more other elements.Metal alloys are mostly used because they have enhanced mechanical or chemical properties. Alloying elements can be added to a metal to increase a number of properties including hardness, strength, corrosion resistance, toughness, etc. By understanding the alloy steel overview on non ferrous metals is discussed. In metallurgy, a non-ferrous metal is a metal, including alloys, that does not contain iron as main constituent.

In metallurgy for understanding the alloys of Iron which are called as steels and cast iron one diagram is very important to understand which is called as Iron-Iron Carbide Diagram. There are various reaction takes place in this diagram as well as various phases are available. These all must be known to metallurgical engineer which is covered in these lecture. In heat treatment basic heat treatment process like hardening, normalizing, and annealing are easy to understand but complex process like austempering and martempering processes are discussed in this course.

In this course specimen preparation for microscopy and macroscopy is discussed which is very important process for obtaining the correct result. This course focus on some important concepts which are the part of Engineering metallurgy.
