Interference in Antireflection Coating (ARC)

1

Interference in Antireflection Coating (ARC), Applications of Interference.

Course Description

Course will describe details of interference phenomena in real life. It is extended in the direction that how interference concepts are applied in day today life applications.

Interference is redistribution of intensity of light. Redistribution of light intensity occurs due to various aspects like superposition of two or more waves simultaneously. It results in various magical images that we observe as scenery. Apart from natural features of picturesque images, an interference phenomenon has multiple scientific and technical applications.

Keeping in view these application this course initially tries to correlate real life situations and how natures mimicry can be utilized for betterment of human life. Course includes types of interference, conditions for obtaining steady interference pattern, thin film interference, types of thin films which provide steady interference pattern, conditions for interference in uniform thickness and wedge shape thin films and their applications as surface flatness testing and antireflection coatings.

Antireflection coating is often used as top layer of optical devices like camera lens, spectacles, telescope lens, and window glass pane. It is also used for light related electrical device like solar cell. Antireflection coating works against reflection of incident light and it allows transmitting maximum light. Due to this images obtained with optical devices are sharp and clear.
