7 thinking systems to find your Ikigai, Discover your passion, re-invent yourself, unlock your potential.
Are you looking to transition to a career path that aligns with your passion and talent? Do you find it hard to imagine yourself outside of your current professional role? If so, you may be experiencing career identity attachment. Career identity attachment occurs when an individual’s sense of self becomes closely tied to their career or professional role. It can be challenging to separate personal identity from work. In many such cases, an individual’s career becomes so central to their sense of self that it can be difficult for them to imagine themselves outside of the professional role. You believe your job is who you are. Who will you be outside of your current job title? How will you introduce yourself at a party or dinner? Career identity attachment is why on the surface you want to try everything to break out, but for some reason you are stuck in a rut. You are subconsciously sabotaging your effort to find a new dream career without realizing. To overcome career identity attachment, the first step is to define and build your strong core identity foundation.
Through speaking to many successful professionals, I have developed a re-invention process that really deep dives into your identity as a human outside of work, gets deep in touch with your hero story where you are the protagonist, helping you developing a strong sense of self. Once that foundation is in place, it will be much easier to find an exciting new career that is in alignment with your values.
The reason many people fail to find their dream career is because they get the order of the process wrong. Because they let their current career identity takes up so much space of their whole identity, when it is removed, their whole identity crumbles.
Fortunately for you, there is a better way.
