Basics of intervention radiology for nurses

This course is designed to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to support patients undergoing interventional radiology (IR) procedures. Interventional radiology is a rapidly evolving specialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. Nurses play a critical role in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes throughout these procedures.

Participants will learn about the fundamentals of IR, including the most common procedures, patient preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.

Through recorded lectures, including photos and videos for practical demonstrations, this course aims to empower nurses to confidently collaborate with interventional radiologists and other healthcare team members, ensuring high-quality care for patients.

The course delves into the fundamentals of IR, offering in-depth coverage of common procedures such as vascular access, angiography, embolization, biopsies, drainage procedures, and more. Participants will gain a solid understanding of the nurse’s responsibilities in patient assessment, preparation, procedural support, and post-procedure care. Emphasis will be placed on maintaining sterile techniques,  and managing medical equipment specific to the IR suite.

• Manage patient education, consent, and communication effectively.
