Human-Centered AI (HCAI) Mastery Course, Design AI products people can trust: apply Google PAIR and Microsoft HAX guidelines through real design decisions.
Course Description
Disclaimer: This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.
Most guidance on designing AI products arrives as a list of rules. The trouble is that real teams rarely disagree about the rules – they disagree about which one applies right now. Should this feature automate the task or assist with it? Should the interface show a confidence score or hide it? Should you explain why the fraud alert fired, knowing the attacker can read the explanation too?
This course is built around those disputes. Every lesson takes one design decision that two reasonable people could argue either way, and teaches the condition that settles it. Learn the conditions, and you can make the call in situations no guideline anticipated.
The course draws on two public sources and shows how they fit together: the Google PAIR People + AI Guidebook, which follows the product arc, and Microsoft’s 18 Guidelines for Human-AI Interaction (HAX, CHI 2019), which cover the interaction surface – including what the authors’ own validation study found about where the guidelines are confused, do not apply, or cannot be checked from outside.
What’s inside:
- 7 modules following the life of an AI feature: before the model, setting expectations, during the interaction, explainability and trust, when it is wrong, over time, and judgement over checklists
- Short, focused video lessons, several with decision points where you commit to a position before the answer is revealed
- Six narrated scenarios – from a rent-prediction feature to a fraud alert to a model update everyone complained about – where early choices carry consequences into later steps
- A recap at the end of every module, and a final module on running a guideline review you can actually trust
No coding or machine-learning background is required. If you build, design, or review products that use AI, this course will change the questions you ask before you ship.
